One honest note on pricing. Zelio publishes this list with the northern market as the reference. Does the Bihar EV subsidy of ₹10,000 apply?

This is the most common confusion right now, so here is the plain answer.

The Bihar Electric Vehicle (Amendment) Policy, 2026 was approved in May 2026 and offers ₹10,000 to general category buyers and ₹12,000 to SC/ST buyers of electric two-wheelers, plus a 50% exemption on motor vehicle tax. It applies to EVs bought on or after 15 May 2026, and applications go through the state transport department's online EV portal.

The catch is that these benefits are tied to a vehicle registered in Bihar. A low-speed 25 kmph scooter is not registered at all, which is exactly why it saves you the licence and road tax hassle in the first place. That usually places it outside the subsidy scheme. The motor vehicle tax rebate similarly applies at the time of registration, so it does not come into play for an unregistered scooter.

Lead acid or lithium: the decision that matters most in Bihar

The gap between a lead acid and a lithium variant of the same model is roughly ₹16,000 to ₹17,000. Here is how to think about it.

Charging time is the real difference. Lead acid packs take 8 to 10 hours for a full charge. Lithium takes 4 to 5 hours. Running cost: what a Zelio actually costs to run in Bihar
